About Army Technical Graduate Course (TGC)

The Technical Graduate Course (TGC) is a permanent commission entry scheme of the Indian Army that offers engineering graduates the opportunity to serve the nation as commissioned officers. Selected candidates undergo training at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun before being commissioned as Lieutenants in various technical arms and services of the Indian Army.

TGC offers permanent commission, which means officers can serve in the Army until they retire. This scheme is specifically designed for engineering graduates who wish to utilize their technical expertise in the defense forces while enjoying a challenging and rewarding career.

Eligibility Criteria for Army TGC 142

Educational Qualification

• Candidates must have passed BE/B.Tech in the relevant engineering discipline from a recognized university/institute
• Candidates in the final year of engineering degree course are also eligible to apply provided they complete all their examinations and produce the final degree completion certificate before 01 January 2026
• The candidate should have scored minimum 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree
• For Architecture/Building Construction Technology stream, candidates should have B.Arch degree with minimum 60% aggregate marks

Age Limit (as on 01 January 2026)

• Minimum Age: 20 years
• Maximum Age: 27 years (Born between 02 January 1999 and 01 January 2006, both dates inclusive)

Nationality

A candidate must either be:

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

Marital Status

Candidates must be unmarried. Candidates who marry during the training period will not be allowed to continue and will be discharged.

Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit according to the prescribed physical standards of the Indian Army:

• Height: Minimum 157.5 cm
• Weight: Minimum weight for different heights as per standard Army Medical norms
• Chest: Minimum 77 cm with 5 cm expansion
• Vision: Minimum standards without glasses:
  • Better Eye: 6/60
  • Worse Eye: 6/60
  Corrected with glasses:
  • Better Eye: 6/6
  • Worse Eye: 6/6

Selection Process for Army TGC 142

The selection process for Army TGC 142 consists of the following stages:

Stage 1: Shortlisting

Based on the applications received, candidates will be shortlisted for SSB interview based on their academic performance and engineering stream preference.

Stage 2: SSB Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview, which will be conducted in two stages:

1. Stage I (Day 1): Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test, Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT)
2. Stage II (Days 2-5): For candidates who qualify Stage I, this involves:
   • Group Testing Officer Tasks
   • Psychology Tests
   • Conference (Personal Interview)

SSB interviews will be conducted at various selection centers:

• Allahabad (UP)
• Bhopal (MP)
• Bangalore (Karnataka)
• Kapurthala (Punjab)

Stage 3: Medical Examination

Candidates recommended by the SSB will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers. Only those candidates who are declared fit by the Medical Board will be eligible for admission to the Indian Military Academy.

Stage 4: Final Merit List

The final Merit List will be prepared based on the combined performance in the SSB Interview and the Engineering Discipline. Candidates who qualify all stages will be placed in the final merit list as per vacancies available.

Pay Scale and Allowances After Commissioning

After successful completion of training, candidates will be commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army with the following pay scale and allowances:

Additional Allowances:

• Dearness Allowance (DA): As per government rates
• Kit Maintenance Allowance: ₹20,000/- per year
• Transport Allowance: ₹3,600 – ₹10,800 + DA (depending on city classification)
• House Rent Allowance: 10% – 30% of Basic Pay (depending on city classification)
• Field Area Allowance: ₹6,730 – ₹16,900 per month (depending on classification)
• High Altitude Allowance: ₹3,400 – ₹25,000 per month (depending on classification)
• Siachen Allowance: ₹42,500/- per month
