FAQs about NEET UG Counselling 2025

What is the difference between AIQ and State Quota counselling?

AIQ (All India Quota) counselling is conducted by MCC for 15% seats in Government Medical/Dental Colleges and 100% seats in Deemed/Central Universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, and ESIC colleges. State Quota counselling is conducted by respective state authorities for 85% seats in State Government Colleges and 100% seats in Private Colleges of that state.

Can I participate in both AIQ and State Quota counselling?

Yes, you can participate in both AIQ and State Quota counselling simultaneously. However, once you accept a seat in AIQ and do not resign, you will not be eligible for state counselling. Similarly, if you accept a state quota seat, you need to resign before joining through AIQ counselling.

What is the Free Exit option in NEET UG counselling?

Free Exit option is available only in Round 1 of counselling. If a candidate does not want to join the allotted seat in Round 1, they can exit the counselling without any penalty and can participate in Round 2. However, this option is not available in subsequent rounds.

What happens if I don’t report to the allotted college after seat allotment?

If you don’t report to the allotted college after Round 1, you can still participate in Round 2 (Free Exit option). However, if you don’t report after Round 2 or Mop-Up Round, your counselling fee will be forfeited, and you will be ineligible for any further rounds of AIQ/Central/Deemed Universities counselling.

How does the upgradation process work in NEET UG counselling?

If you choose the “Join & Upgrade” option after getting a seat in Round 1 or Round 2, your current seat will be secured, and you’ll be considered for a better option in the next round as per your filled choices and rank. If you get a better seat in the next round, your previous seat will be automatically cancelled. If not, you’ll retain your current seat.

What is the Mop-Up Round in NEET UG counselling?

The Mop-Up Round is conducted after Round 2 to fill the remaining vacant seats. Fresh registrations are allowed for this round. Candidates who have already secured a seat in Round 1 or Round 2 and reported to the allotted institute are not eligible for the Mop-Up Round. Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 2 but did not report are also not eligible.

Conclusion: NEET UG Counselling 2025 is a crucial step after qualifying the NEET UG examination. The process requires careful planning, research, and timely action. Understanding the counselling rules, filling choices wisely, and keeping all documents ready can significantly improve your chances of getting a seat in your preferred medical college. Make sure to stay updated with the official notifications from MCC and your state counselling authority for a smooth counselling experience.
